SCOTT Mitchell, who runs the famous Alpine Angler tackle shop on the outskirts of Cooma, gives us this week's report on the trout fishing scene in Lake Eucumbene.
``The Snowy River Shire has up-graded the boat launching ramps at Anglers Reach, Old Adaminaby, Braemar Bay, and the Eucumbene Cove by grading the approaches with road base then rolling it down hard to take traffic," Mitchell said.
``Buckenderra Holiday Village have installed a concrete ramp at their own expense, making excellent access for visiting boaters.
``The best method to catch trout in Lake Eucumbene at present is by trolling soft plastic lures behind ford fenders or cow bells. Storm wild eye rippin shads, in the rainbow or brown trout colours, are working wonders.
``These shads can be run on the standard jig heads or the new rev heads which have a small spinner blade built in to them.
``Some of the most productive spots to catch rainbows to 1kg or browns to 1.5kg trolling lures includes Middling Bank, Rushes Plains Bay, Seven Gates, Yens Bay and Cobra Bold Bay and up at Providence around the mouth of the Eucumbene River," Mitchell revealed.
